What does it mean to be a senior at Catalònia HC? It means belonging to a community that competes, grows and cares for its traditions. The club currently has 3 women’s senior teams and 3 men’s senior teams: both first teams play in Primera Catalana and the remaining sides compete in Segona Catalana. We are a growing club, in both the women’s and men’s game, with top-level coaches in every category.
Christmas Gala Dinner. Every December, our seniors celebrate a club dinner at a landmark Barcelona restaurant (often La Venta, owned by a family friend and founding family of the club). We mix at shared tables with players from all senior teams and, after dinner, we usually head out to one of Barcelona’s classic Christmas night spots. It’s a long-standing tradition and a red-letter date in the Catalònia calendar.
The Winter Party. Each season we look for a weekend when all senior teams play on Saturday so we can host, that evening, a dinner-party at a teammate’s home (billiards included). It began four editions ago, when our club DJ, DJ Negre, convinced a teammate to “hand over the house and let’s make it big”. That day many games are played at Pau Negre, which lets us cheer each other on throughout the day and keeps the evening rolling naturally. It’s a get-together that strengthens bonds and builds team far beyond the scoreline.
Love & Hockey. Six years ago, the women’s and men’s first-team captains decided to close the season with a mixed 7-a-side tournament. Since then, Love & Hockey has taken place in late June or early July and has grown into a true club day: DJ during the matches, refreshment tables, reunions with former players, pizza at nightfall and a final party that reminds us why we love this badge. It’s possibly the day with the strongest sense of belonging of the entire year.
More than rituals: identity and values. These traditions keep us alive and eager to be at the club of our lives. They give meaning to #ViuElCatalònia, to the habit of supporting each other on game days, and to always remembering we are family: from the top performer in the first team to the player taking their first steps in the last squad. Being a senior is to compete, but also to welcome, to lead by example, and to be a reference for the academy.
A new season ahead. We begin a campaign full of challenges and excitement, and knowing that between matches we’ll share our traditions reminds us we will go all in, together. Every time we see a Catalònia face, we see a family face. That’s why this club is the best place to enjoy hockey and grow as people.
