The stick and equipment should suit the player and activity. Do not assume loan equipment is always available or choose a specific stick size without guidance from the coaches.
Catalònia Hoquei Club is a Barcelona hockey club founded in 2004. It brings together a hockey academy, teams and a community built around respect, equality, effort and teamwork.
The About page explains the club’s history and projects. Contact the club for current opportunities to join and play.
The club operates at the Pau Negre Municipal Sports Complex in Montjuïc, Barcelona. The Contact page provides a map and directions.
Check the location of your particular session before travelling: matches and special activities may take place elsewhere. Ask the club if you need accessibility information.
Use the contact form and tell us the interested person’s age, previous hockey experience and what they are looking for. Do not send identity documents or sensitive information in this first enquiry.
The club will explain suitable groups, schedules, availability and registration steps. Sending an enquiry does not reserve a place or complete registration.
The academy presents the prebenjamí, benjamí, aleví, infantil and cadet stages. Its approach combines learning hockey, team play and personal development.
A player’s category depends on the season and applicable sporting rules. Give the club the birth year so it can confirm the appropriate group and available places; a category name alone does not confirm eligibility or registration.
The Training schedule page lists the teams’ published sessions. Check your group and the relevant season.
A regular schedule does not guarantee that every individual session will take place unchanged: holidays, incidents and special activities may affect it. Contact the club to confirm changes or if you cannot find your group.
Yes. The club is not only a children’s academy: it also has adult teams and a community involved in different sporting projects.
If you want to join, explain your experience and whether you want to start, return to hockey or compete. The suitable team, availability and conditions must be confirmed directly with the club.
Hoquei+ is the club’s inclusive project enabling people with disabilities to enjoy hockey. It is part of Catalònia’s commitment to participation and equal opportunities.
Contact the club for current arrangements, support, schedules and participation options. Avoid sending sensitive health information in the initial contact form.
The News section publishes articles about the club, teams and community. Each article has its own page with the content and date.
Use recent articles to follow current news. An older match report describes its own point in time; it does not confirm present-season schedules, team membership or conditions.
Yes. Working with schools is part of Catalònia’s projects, introducing children to hockey while developing sporting skills and shared values.
If you represent a school, read the school-services page and contact the club with the group’s ages and your proposal. Format, venue, dates and price are agreed with the club; this FAQ does not guarantee them.
When choosing a sport, focus on the child’s interests, enjoyment and what the family can sustain. Field hockey is worth considering for children who enjoy movement, ball games and sharing goals with a team. Seeing the environment, speaking with coaches and confirming how joining would work can help families make an informed choice.
We strive to create a community where every player matters, where achievements are celebrated, and lessons are learned from every challenge. Our commitment is that every academy member feels supported, motivated, and part of this big family, growing together and enjoying hockey every step of the way.
Our club is more than a hockey team. It is a space for learning and values, where we promote respect, equality, effort, and teamwork. We are a family and inclusive organization where both children and adults can find their place, both on and off the field.
To get started, tell the club the person’s birth year, experience and interests. Confirm the group, schedule, places, equipment, conditions and possibility of a trial before completing registration. Do not send documents or sensitive health information in your first enquiry.
Field hockey combines moving, controlling the ball with a stick, observing space and deciding how to cooperate. These situations offer practice in coordination, spatial awareness, communication and decision-making within play. They are learning opportunities, not promises of clinical benefits or identical outcomes for every child.
Focused on developing basic skills and beginning to build camaraderie and respect.
Players at this stage learn team techniques and develop a greater understanding of the game.
Teamwork is essential for our players' growth.
We foster an environment of respect among players, coaches, and the community.
Developing people through hockey means valuing how players learn, cooperate and treat others, alongside technique and results. Sharing a task, listening to guidance and trying again after a mistake are examples of educational situations that a team sport can offer.
Our core values are respect, equality, commitment, and self-improvement. We believe that hockey is a tool for shaping people, not just players. Through our sport, we teach teamwork, perseverance, and respect for others — values that our players carry with them throughout their lives.
We promote an environment based on respect, effort, inclusion, and teamwork. These core values guide our players in both sports and their personal development, helping them grow as a community and persevere through challenges.

Development does not mean repeating the same training at every age. Catalònia’s academy presentation describes a progression from learning through play towards technical skills, understanding the game, tactics and commitment. The stages below explain that approach; they do not replace the season’s federation eligibility rules.
- Prebenjamín: The initial stage for our youngest players, where they learn by playing and enjoy hockey in a friendly environment. - Benjamin: Focused on developing basic skills and beginning to build camaraderie and respect. - Alevin: Players at this stage learn team techniques and develop a greater understanding of the game. - Infantil: A stage where discipline and commitment are strengthened while refining tactical and technical skills. - Cadet: The most advanced level in our academy, where we prepare players physically and mentally to keep growing and enjoying hockey.

Girls have a pathway in hockey too: discovering the game, learning with teammates and continuing to develop in club teams. Catalònia’s public academy presentation includes girls’ and boys’ development. Before a player joins, confirm the actual group and provision for her category and season.
Men's and women's teams for each category, where our whole club family grows together, from the youngest to cadets.
Additionally, the club has developed a hockey academy that works with boys and girls of all ages, from pre-junior to cadet categories. The training of young players not only focuses on the sporting aspect but also on values such as respect, effort, and teamwork.
We welcome everyone, regardless of ability.

Grassroots sport, skill development and high performance are different concepts. Grassroots builds foundations for play and participation; targeted development works on specific skills; high performance involves a distinct selection and performance context. A competitive history does not automatically make the whole academy an elite programme.
The following record is historical and is described on About us. It does not establish any team’s current division, a national-team place or an official high-performance programme. For current competition information, consult the relevant season and federation source.
One of our greatest achievements has been bringing our first teams to compete in the Division of Honor B, the second-highest field hockey league in Spain. This has been an important step in consolidating the club. At the same time, we have seen players trained in our academy being called up to the Catalan National Team, a recognition of the talent and work developed in our club.
Catalònia Hoquei Club teams are federated and participate in official competitions of both the Catalan and Spanish Hockey Federations. Throughout the season, our teams compete in various regional and national tournaments, fostering the athletic growth of each player and reinforcing our commitment to competitive hockey.
Discovering hockey at school can be a first step towards playing at a club. What matters is the child wanting to continue and the family understanding the group, environment and joining conditions. Taking part in a school activity is not club registration and does not reserve a place.
Our collaboration with schools is another of our fundamental pillars. We organize extracurricular activities in several schools in Barcelona, where we introduce hockey to the youngest. This collaboration allows us to bring the sport closer to children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to experience it.
Through our classes and workshops, we not only teach sports techniques but also instill values such as effort, solidarity, and discipline. We have seen how many of these children, after being introduced to hockey at school, have joined the club and continued their path as players.
At Catalònia Hoquei Club, we provide services designed to enrich students' educational experiences, from personalized PE classes to extracurricular programs and unique visits to Pau Negre.

When comparing Barcelona hockey schools, ask how children learn, what environment they will find, how progress is supported and how the club communicates with families. Also consider travel, continuity, behaviour and the actual season’s information. A win count alone does not describe the whole educational offer.
The Catalònia Hoquei Club academy is much more than just a place to learn hockey. It’s a space where young people can develop, learn values like respect, discipline, and teamwork, and form friendships that will last a lifetime. Here, we believe that hockey is a tool for personal growth both on and off the field.
